Back Mountain library auction back for 67th year
From a butcher's block to the other unique items on and off the auction block, the 67th annual Back Mountain Memorial Library auction promises to be a memorable one.
This year's auction starts at 5 p.m. Thursday and runs through Sunday at the library grounds in Dallas.
"It's great. We've got a lot going on," said publicity Chairwoman Carol Sweeney.
She said 2013 has been designated the "Year of the Auctioneer" in honor of longtime Antiques Chairman Ernest Ashbridge. Ashbridge, who passed away in April, celebrated 50 years of volunteering with the library in 2009. The antiques barn at the library grounds will be dedicated in his memory during the auction, Sweeney said. On the last night of the auction, a small antique walnut chest of drawers, which was donated in Ashbridge's memory, will be raffled off.welcome to Discount and high quality Burberry(women) Shirts, free Shipping available. Among the goods donated this year is a piece of local history: the original butcher's block from Acme Market, the Back Mountain's first modern supermarket, which was built at the Five Points intersection in Dallas Borough in the 1940s.
Lots of antique and vintage items will be up for sale, in the booths and on the auction block. Antiques Chairwoman Leslie Horoshwelcome to Buy Best Yves Saint Laurent Grade A Handbags for sale, find Latest Styles!ko, who carries on in Ashbridge's place, compiled a "wonderful collection and selection" from antique stores, estates, flea markets and other places, Sweeney said.
New "New Goods" Chairwoman Terry Eckert "got some really good donations," Sweeney said. These include several designer purses like a Coach purse and wristlet set; housewares from Southern Living at Home; jewelry and watches; and lots of gift certificates to local businesses.
Local vendors include Earth and Wears, which sells items including jewelry, clothing, handbags, accessories and original art; Green Dog Pottery will also sell handmade pottery and do demonstrations.
This year there will be music to rummage the "odds and ends" flea market tent by, and lots to eat. Anthracite Cafe is partnering with the library to run the food stand, and the restaurant's owner Mike Prushinski will donate 50 percent of the proceeds, Sweeney said.
Also in the edibles department, the auction will feature Nice's Potato Pancakes, The Lands at Hillside Farms ice cream, Zina's homemade fudge, Clem's Root Beer Floats, and other vendors with goodies including gyros and other Greek food, halushkis and smoothies.
As always, there will be plenty to keep the kids busy, like "Bid-Time Stories," crafts and special entertainment at 7 and 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Franklin Klock, a naturalist at the Carbon County Education Center, will give a presentation on birds of prey on Friday. On Saturday, local magician Keith Culver will perform, and on Sunday, kids can join Miss Rachel for face painting and balloon twisting.

It was after her return she started thinking about going back to work.welcome to Best Discount Paul Smith Grade AAA Handbags,Free shipping! “I wanted something flexible because of the animals and I knew the bridal shop where I got my dress from was for sale as the previous owner was retiring.”
So Adele took on the store which she has renamed Bella Sposa Bridal Boutique, inspired by her own Italian wedding.
It translates as beautiful bride and the logo even includes a horseshoe to represent Adele’s passion for horses. But Adele’s story doesn’t quite end there. After a hectic few months of settling into the routine of running her busy bridal shop, Adele’s giving nature is still going strong.
“Just when you think you’ve been through a tough time, you meet someone who has been through worse and it really grounds you.”
Adele goes on to talk about a customer at her bridal store, Lizzie Cross, who went into hospital to have her tonsils out. Six weeks later she came out unable to walk after contracting a virus. “Now she is wheelchair-bound and having to learn to walk again. She occasionally passes out and when she comes to she doesn’t know who people are, even her fiance,” says Adele.
“She’s not letting it hold her back and her goal is to walk down the aisle.” welcome to Buy Best GUCCI T-Shirts online store, free Shipping available. Buy Now!
But 25-year-old Lizzie found her dream gown in Adele’s shop. But with a budget of $500 she couldn’t afford to buy the $2,500 dress.
“She came back to find a dress she could afford but I’d already decided to give her the dress of her dreams.”
And that is Adele all over, a real-life fairy godmother who despite her own trials and tribulations is positive and willing to help someone worse off than her.
